d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

The hens are cute, and have awesome personalities. :] And dont worry about not getting rid of your rooster, Im sure he's happy at your house. You're not a wimp.

haha

I knew you couldnt do it,

I'd keep him too at least like you said, til you got a season of breeding with them under your belt. That way you'd have more to pick and choose from.
Personally, I always like to keep a spare of each color on hand just incase something happens to my primary ones.

laceynoelle,

glad to have you here, and yep nice pic of your little girl too

Aubrey, Rufus and Rusty were having a knockdown drag-out fight today! First my RIR broke it up, then my Buff Orp hen broke it up, then DH had to go in and separate them, flipped them upside down and told them "NO!" a couple times. Finally, they kept just circling each other, then would look over at DH, who'd say no again, then they'd walk away from each other. Rufus wanted to come to DH for a chest rub, LOL. He's such a little goof. I'm wondering if Rufus and Rusty are battling it out for the top spot. So far, Rufus has been top dog in there, but since I've been letting Rusty go out on range with the older hens, I think maybe he's getting delusions of grandeur. I know they're going to have to settle this between them one way or another. Have you had too many of these fights between coop mates go on long? They are turning 22 weeks Wednesday and this is their first fight.

na,
They workit out pretty quick.
Even in the project pens where I'm constanly changing out males or adding new ones. They will spar a little right at first, but usually within an hour os so they know their place in the chain of command

I told DH that he couldn't be with them 24/7 so they'd eventually have to get it settled, one way or another. I just hate having to fix wounds, silly boys, so hope it doesn't get that far. Never saw their combs so flaming red, LOL!

ETA: BTW, they started back up later on and I let them go at it. In a couple minutes, they separated, faced off, then Rusty walked away. Guess that means Rufus holds onto his top spot, eh?

Today was photo day, so here's few pictures with my d'Anvers. Brace your self for lots and lots of photos

The solid roof for the run is finally finish, and after few more touches I can move my babies back in the big area. Right now they are still in the "nursery tractor" claiming the last patch of grass in my back yard.
