man Red

That comb does look big for a hatchling. Though when they are wet, they do show not much but comb and eyeball.

Congrats on him

dobieslady,

Hate to hear after all that, they are parting with them, hopfully they find good homes for them all.

Hey there all! I am a bit late with this post but I was admiring Arianna's beautiful hatch or chicks. There was a Blue Quail chick with a funny down pattern - stripe on the head and brown around the face and I just wanted to add that I've gotten those too out of my blue quails. They totally used to mess with me too....lol. I find them every so often in my blue quails, but strangely enough - not in my regular Quails. Funny. Just thought I would add that I've seen them too. I truly enjoy looking at pics of what other people hatch.

Aubrey - thank you for bringing the joy of d'Anvers to so many people.

So sad, but it was nice they offered them to you first.Mixing ages is not that difficult at lease not with mine. I have mostly Brahmas and they are very docile and have not been mean when adding new birds to my flock.

I would love to see some recent pics of Gazpacho and Amelia EH

Thank you all for your responses ! Says alot for a breed when you have so many nice helpful responses - often i think the breed itself shows by the people that appreciate them and if that is the case - these are truly wonderful little birds!

What a nice thing to say, Knox! I agree about Aubrey for sure-he's always willing to give his time and expertise to help us out with any questions and explain the genetics part of it to dense old me. When I thought about starting with one bantam breed, this is the one I kept coming back to, over and over again. I think the first time I spoke to Aubrey about them was over a year before I was able to get any eggs from him. They were worth the wait!

Just a thing i have noticed - from years of dog showing - that is the same. People seem to be "like" the breed they enjoy! LOL

Yeah, I'd be hard pressed to hate the breed I enjoyed. Or is it enjoy a breed I couldn't stand? LOL. They're cool little birds with TONS of personality. Now mine are 23 weeks old and I'm getting more and more anxious for that first egg....

Seriously, though, I've had breeds I thought I would like and did not. And I've had breeds I originally didn't think I would like that I love. They can surprise you.

Today's photos of Gazpacho and Amelia Egghart (now 11 weeks old) with apologies in advance for not taking great pictures!:
