d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

oh there's no doubt, it's a quail and a blue quail. Not 100% sure on sex yet, but looking to both be pullets.

If so and you possibly get a male from the dun quail I sent, breed them together. You'll get all of them (quail, blue quail, dun quail ) plus platinum quail from them that way.

Here are pics I took tonight, they were both 4 weeks old, this past Tuesday.

Blue Quail (Pullet I think)

Just solid grey on back and wings, this is the only other coloring on it

Another shot

That is the same chick in the last 2, for some reason got a redder look when we put it back in the box. But it has a lot of black like the 3rd pic.

OK everybody and of course Aubrey, jump in here, opinions please.

you got one of those laced up quail roos like JJ did I think. The back is too patterened up for a male, but that head and chest color sure screams roo. The blue, I'm not 100% on, looking to have a male comb coming in and chest looks male, what it's back look like?

Did I hear the word Blue mentioned huh did I?

LauraLee they are adorable and I LOVE the blue coloring. I was graced with baby ducklings yesterday so I am oooohing and aaaahing over them and the mama is so happy. My first brood of ducks ever.

She lost her mate and buddies this summer and the other group would not allow her into their click they chased her away. Well apparently the boys snuck back because 6 of her 8 eggs hatched. hehehehehe

Looking at pictures of these D'anver chicks make me want some more chicks from Aubrey right now....

haha I hear ya DO, believe me, I wish I had more. I have been getting about 4-5 e-mails a day for a month from people wanting more and I just dont have them. Seems to happen this way every year though. Bout Sept. the flood gates of fall request come pouring open, unfortunately, mine just are starting to quit by then.

I could do you like Laura Lee and send you a few eggs from whatever I get, would be random eggs, mostly from project colors...but that's just all that's laying now, and they arent doing much. To be honest, I'll be glad when I can turn off the bators for a while. Have had 6 running nonstop since Feb, got down to 3 a few weeks ago, down to 1 as of this week.
Been mostly bantam phoenix and d'anver project colors.

Laura Lee, I cant believe they didnt make it today. They are packed tight though, bubble wrapped, inside a full egg carton, then packed tight in the box with news paper so they have plenty of insulation to them, they should be fine unless you are talking 20's or something and they got left out.

Let me know

Aubrey

Cetawin, have you gone back to the first dozen or so pages of this thread. If you like blues, I have several different ones posted back there. Scattered over several pages, not really sure which ones they are on though. Also have a bunch on the website too.

OK Aubrey here ya go, another shot at each, hope this helps.

The little Blue, it hasn't developed as much as the little quail.

And a couple of the little quail, don't know why it turned it so red looking in other pic, but these look more like it.

Aubrey, I wasn't too worried, until I stopped by the post office to check on the evening run and she showed me some boxes they brought in this morning. THEY HAD TIRE TRACKS ON THEM!!! My heart stopped, I said please don't tell me one of those are mine, I thought OH NO!!!! MY EGG BABIES!!!!
hit.gif

She said, NO, mine hadn't arrived yet. Kinda relieved, but after that a lot worried! What if they have run them down and left them laying somewhere!!!

I know one old gal that's gonna be hoppin' mad.

May have to take out a postal worker.

Thanks Aubrey but I'm not that good at incubating. I tried that once and only 2 hatch out of 12 eggs or so. Have not try again since. I'll wait till spring and get chicks from you. You have me down for 5 of each (Silver, Ginger Red, Lavender and White), right? The sooner you have these chicks the better

Laura, I hope you'll get your eggs soon and they're going to be all fine.
