d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Laura Lee,
bout 90% sure that quail is a male...the blue about 70% sure it's a pullet. Another week or so will tell for sure. Those Ideal chicks feather out a little different than mine.

Sounds good DO,
And yep I got you in the book still.

Aubrey no I have not....I am focused on building a duck house, stealing Rufus and Suede from Cyn and then I shall see when I can fit your place on my hit list to steal from

Don't worry I will get to you after some recon work...so toss some blue spare parts outside k? muahahahahahaha

Thought the little quail might be a male, he is already trying to act like a big Roo. When I change the water or start to feed them or anything, he spreads those wings, brings that little tail up, throws out that big chest and runs over to my hand, like he's trying to run it back out of the box. But when I start toward him to catch him with that hand, he runs like a little chicken.

He is so comical to watch!

I hope our guesses are correct, it would be nice to have at least got one of each out of all of those.

And thanks dtran for the vote of confidence on the eggs, that dang postal bunch had me sweatin' bullets today.

Cetawin you will have to get some blues from Aubrey in the spring, he has a glorious assortment. Too many to pick from actually. I kept saying I want that color, I want that color!!

It's just too hard to just pick a few, if he would just mix some ugly ones in there it would be easier.

My poor Gazpacho molted his beautiful plume tail. Now he looks humiliated and "nekked!" How long does it take for them to grow back what they've molted?

Quote:
the hole process start to finish only takes about a month. They'll drop all the old feathers in a week or 2, then immediately start getting the new ones in, take 2-3 week for that to happen. so not long, they are only homely for a short bit

The egg babies have arrived!!!!

All seem to be ok, but the little darlins were awfully cold. So I hope they didn't get too cold, have them open and on the table, warming slowly.
Had Caiti Scarlett aka "Elly Mae" come in to meet the new egg babies, and of course she pick up the smallest one, kissed it, and said "hello my tiny darlin, let's get you warm so you can make me a little baby to play with."

Here is a pic of her so you all will have a visual of "Elly Mae", this pic was taken in her grandpa's barn, her favorite place to hang out.

So there's your update! Now to get the little darlins room temp. so I can put them in the little baby hatcher!!!

I am sooooo ready!!!

glad they got to you.
You can candle them now too if you want to see if any got shook up in shipping. I do it on all I get in. You'd be looking at the big end of the egg for the aircell. If you see it, you're good, if you dont and notice flowing air bubbles in the shell, they got it. Being new, I'd still set all of them to be safe.

Hope they all do well for you

Aubrey, I did candle them, cold see what I thought was the yolk in some and some looked kinda clear. Did not look for the air in the end. I made a circle around the names of the ones I saw the yolk in, so I would know I did see something. One has a small dot in it, but it moves a bit more than I thought it should, like it's kinda runny. But I really have no idea what I am looking at, at this point, all we ever looked at on the farm, already had little ones forming, I think the earliest I saw were the veins.

So I'm gonna incubate them all and check back on them later. They could all be just fine for all I know, so I'm not taking any chances.

I read somewhere, I can't remember, I've read so much in the last few days, you should wait till the eggs are room temp. to put them in the bater. Is this true or can I go ahead, they have been open and unpacked on the table, just like the picture since around 11:00 a.m. Should I wait till the morning to put them in or go ahead and put them in now.

Get me started here, incubater is warm, humidity is fixed, we're ready to go!!!
