Do you use those outside brooders that you posted a picture of, this early in the year?

yep year round. I just bump up to a 250 watt heat lamp and wrap them in heavy plastic and cover the bottom with cardboard, stays nice and toasty in them even in the low 20's. I use to keep them in a brooder in the spare bed room....good god I'm glad I dont do that any more. A box of 10 -20 aint bad, but a full blown brooder with a couple hundred in it....you never get the dust out of the house seems like.

all this hatchin' sure is excitin'
gettin' eggs from aubrey in march or so i have to wait till then
ive got 7 d'anver mixes in the incubator and the hen to those is broody on 5 more eggs
i think 1 is hers the others 4 or from an oegb hen
all due to hatch the 24th - 27th

I have eggs due to hatch in a week. They are silver quail, black, and buff. I had 6 fertile and all 6 are still developing. This is the first batch in my new rcom 20 and I'm very impressed to have no quitters yet. I'd normally have had 2 or 3 quit by now.

In the mean time, some where in the backwoods of northern Virginia at a secure compound in an undisclosed location. I have been building an army of ninja D'anvers, complete with their headbands, swords and 2 toed ninja foot wear, for the sole purpose of crushing the "hairy legged hoarde" from the south. So bring it on. I love the smell of gravy and biscuits in the morning.

Has anybody ever tried crossing a Quail and a Mille Fleur in hopes of getting a Mottled Quail?

I havent, but it'd work, would think you'd get a lot of buff columbians possible too that way. Mille or just a black mottled would work, would take a couple years to get there though, being mottling is recessive
