d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

I can tell by the look on her face, she is thinking "take me to momma Laura Lee in KY, I want to be a peeple chicky!!! Where I will be treated like a baby, not a bird!!"
See now JJ, you need to bring her to me before she sinks into deep dark depression. And like I said before, it will only take you half a day or maybe a little longer to get here.

That is one of my 50 or so favorites.

Oh and JJ, you see that "bad bird" on my profile pic? That's Woody. I have to go 3 or more rounds with that little hot head every time I go in the lot. He's got this "I'm the head honcho of the lot" attitude. I keep knocking him backwards and he keeps coming back, till some of the other roos step in and run him off. Today as I was unlocking the gate and here he came to meet me hopping sideways, it was funny to watch him, thinking he was such a bad thing and him so tiny.

I got 5 of them with an attitude one of them is two months old, but the one in my profile pic is the meanest. Just plain mean it is a good thing he don't weight 10 pounds, he'd whip the world. I have this theory that has proved true for me so far. The ones you mess with the most when they are little and make the biggest pets out of get the meanest.

That's because they start thinking of you as their equal. You know, it's the old "familiarity breeds contempt" axiom. They feel comfortable taking you on when they think you're no bigger than they are. I do think that if there isn't a human-aggressive bone in their body, handling won't make them mean. It's just that if there is, handling them a ton makes them too cocky with you.

I had no choice with my little guy, he had pasty butt on and off throughout his chickhood, so I had to keep soaking his butt. He hated me for that! Lol. He also regularly managed to get himself stuck in unlikely places and had to be rescued. He's a little bugger now, but is learning to stay away when I'm in the run now, although he still throws himself at the bars at me when I am out the run and not near the bolts to the door.

Got a question for all....I have recently started my little darlins on the laying food, in pellet form. Not sure if they are eating it, there is still some of the crushed in the feeder.
Will or can they eat the pellets? Or do I need to put this in the blender too?
Wouldn't want my little darlins to get hungry or feel they had to live on bugs in the lot. Thanks for the info!!

You don't cut it up and feed them with a spoon? Don't know I feed crumbles but they can eat sunflower seeds. I think in some of Aubrey's pictures you can see pellets.

JJ Honey, I would feed them with a spoon if that's what it took, these are my little feathered babies!!

But these are just regular pellets, not the mini ones, can't get those around here, they are about the size of regular rabbit pellet food. It comes from Tractor Supply. Just don't know if they are eating it or not. If I decide not, I will throw it in the blender like I did when they were babies, it's just to hard to mash up for the babies, I couldn't even crush the chick started with my hands, put it in the blender and set it on "ice" to get it to chop it up.
And thanks all for the help.

A meat grinder would make less "flour"
