JJ, Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas? Do you already have some? One of these days, I'm going to want to hatch some more Ameraucanas. I'm partial to the BBS, which is what I have, but they are all aging. I have a blue, a splash and a black. My older blue hen, the mother of the black one, died awhile back and Gypsy, her daughter, is going on 5 years old now. The splash and blue are going on 4 years old so one of these days, I won't have any more true Ameraucanas here. Next to my Rocks, they are my favorite hens. Mine are from Cree lines.

They are my wife's. We have six hens, a wheaten rooster and a blue wheaten rooster. Got part of them from Tom Kernan and part of them came from Pennsyvania (Blehm Line). They are real good. Some local people wanted some chicks so we hatched a few.

haha, thanks

Cynthia, is there any dog gone way to clear off all this blame advertising on the new forum? Thats another reason I'm not on as much...it takes me 40 forevers to get each page to load with all that mess dragging it down, then God forbid you click something again, I get to start all over again. It seems to be the main banner at the top and the ad on the top right margin that take so long. Those 2 take my computer for ever to get up. I end up getting so frustrated I just turn it off. I did find out how to edit out the stuff on the forum pages, but this other ones get in the way still. PM's take me 15- 20 minutes or so each day just to answer 3-4 of them

Any tips?? Sure would like to click and go like I did on the old one. I dont even check out new post any more, just my main ones. Just dont have the time

Golden and Platinum feather members are the only ones who can turn off the ads, if I'm not mistaken, Aubrey. I have some frustrations of my own with the new format, though most of the time, it's okay.

Aubrey, candled eggs tonight. Only 5 not developing out of two dozen. I will take that every time on shipped eggs. Too bad 4 of the bad ones were the crele. We will see how the hatch goes. Maybe I can get some more later if need be.

jj

If I am thinking right a crele roo to a blue red hen should get me everything including barred blue reds.

Re-candled tonight, good thing I left the ones I thought were bad in the bator. So far 4 are not developing. 2 crele.a black and a red blue. 20/24 thats batting .800, not bad for shipped eggs.

I candled tonight also, still got the same 3 bad and now one other one. Gonna leave till the next candling though. Hope I'm wrong, cause if I'm right that will take me down to just two Mille Fleurs....

So just hoping and waiting, will check again in four more days, then cull the bad ones. So hate to do that, it's like throwing out my children....

But we will just wait and see!!!

Okay, folks, did I get taken? I bought Quail d'Anvers eggs from someone. They are supposed to be from SQ parents. These 4 chicks hatched and one has a completely yellow head. Two have chipmunk stripes on their heads. All the Quail chicks I've seen have been solid dark brown with yellow under the beak area. Is it normal to have variation like this? Tell me I'm worrying for no reason, please!

Went to Carl's and he candled the d'Anvers eggs...only 7 out of 36 were pulled from eggs that made the trip all the way from Georgia to Oklahoma!!!!! Pulled 2 from the BB Red and 3 from the Ginger and 1 from two varieties. All the blacks and one other variety were good. So eggcited!

We're having storms moving across the state with tornado watches thru the evening hours. Tornadoes are dancing across the state, but we have been truly lucky...not even getting hail...yet. We have gotten 1.75 inches of rain.

We have the new extension of my hen house finished and I've been moving in brooder shelving. The screen door on the left goes into the old section. It has a dirt floor and the new section has a slab floor.
I have 23 new babies in the brooders...some Spangled OEGB, Buff Columbina OEGB, Cochin and CW. And have some one and two week olds...but have set-ups for the 90 + babies that will hatch (including the d'Anvers).

This pen is a 2 x 6 water tank with a pvc pipe and 1 inch wire mesh. And the water cooler will help keep this tin roofed hen house cooler when the heat really hits. The floor pen on the right side is 7 x 4 and houses some 10 week old project birds.
