Golden and Platinum feather members are the only ones who can turn off the ads, if I'm not mistaken, Aubrey. I have some frustrations of my own with the new format, though most of the time, it's okay.

I'm supposed to be a Gold now that you mention it. Wonder if mine expired and I wasnt notified? Will have to check into that. I had a lot of it turned off, but now it's killing me again, all the time

I do get some from time to time, especially the silver quail, with the full pale head, but usually not the bb red striped head. They look to be quail, but wouldnt be shocked if they are carrying a lot of other stuff due to the color variations in the chicks. I hate to talk about anyone elses birds, and quality is hard to tell on a chick, so let's just say a lot of people use the term show quality just to get more money or sells off their birds. I have seen ebay pics of "show quality" birds that werent even the true breed they were advertising... so that term is to be taken very loosly, especially when it comes to eggs. No egg is show quality, best to say like you did, eggs from show quality parents...


at this point, I will be a waiting game, they should color up like quail, but my biggest concern would be whatelse they have in them, they arent 100% quail for sure from the chick pics. Give them a month or so and we can tell a bit more about them

Okay, folks, did I get taken? I bought Quail d'Anvers eggs from someone. They are supposed to be from SQ parents. These 4 chicks hatched and one has a completely yellow head. Two have chipmunk stripes on their heads. All the Quail chicks I've seen have been solid dark brown with yellow under the beak area. Is it normal to have variation like this? Tell me I'm worrying for no reason, please!

Went to Carl's and he candled the d'Anvers eggs...only 7 out of 36 were pulled from eggs that made the trip all the way from Georgia to Oklahoma!!!!! Pulled 2 from the BB Red and 3 from the Ginger and 1 from two varieties. All the blacks and one other variety were good. So eggcited!

We're having storms moving across the state with tornado watches thru the evening hours. Tornadoes are dancing across the state, but we have been truly lucky...not even getting hail...yet. We have gotten 1.75 inches of rain.

We have the new extension of my hen house finished and I've been moving in brooder shelving. The screen door on the left goes into the old section. It has a dirt floor and the new section has a slab floor.
I have 23 new babies in the brooders...some Spangled OEGB, Buff Columbina OEGB, Cochin and CW. And have some one and two week olds...but have set-ups for the 90 + babies that will hatch (including the d'Anvers).

This pen is a 2 x 6 water tank with a pvc pipe and 1 inch wire mesh. And the water cooler will help keep this tin roofed hen house cooler when the heat really hits. The floor pen on the right side is 7 x 4 and houses some 10 week old project birds.

That's great to hear!! If I remember , yours spent the entire week in the shipping process too on top of the long run...

Good to hear you and both JJ and Laura Lee are doing good too, hope they all continue to do well and all hatch off for all yall.

I did get a reply from the seller. I think they sound legit and the photos of the parents did look good to me. So, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. By the way, if I got these from someone who is a member here, I am not dissing them or their birds. I was just asking a question. Here is their reply:

Dear juliechick,

Yes once in a while a yellow headed baby chick will hatch. We noticed this
after we introduced a new rooster into the flock. this has not interfered
with the quality of the flock. Our little pullets and hens are still very
typy and good quail color quality. We won RCCL with a pullet at Red HIll
Bantam club APA show and the ILL-MO bantam club show Fall 2011. And yes
there is a stray that will show up in the hatch. It is a recessive gene
because in the breeding pens all the birds are correct colored. So there
has to be birds in the flock that are heterozygous for this trait. Since
the quail color I understand is the columbian restrictor on e+, it seems
that some where along the line some one introduced a bird into the flock
that was carying eWh wheaten. eWh is recessive to e+ and can hide behind
e+.

yep, that all looks and sounds about right. That is a columbian pattern showing on the heads of some of them. My wonder is , what these will end up looking like as adults? Not dissing them either, I have recessive trait birds too and get similar results from time to time in some of the colors. They basically are and look right for the quail color. The extra white face doesnt bother me a bit, get the fairly regular in the silvers. Those with the columbian heads will just have to wait and see. They do sound like they know their birds though, so more than likely they are from good stock and should all color up as quail. Just remember they will carry this trait, so if you sell any, you may have to be prepared to explain what's going on too.

Well, we will see in a few months. I really want a good start of these. We've fallen for the breed and the Quail pattern. I've only seen one other person with really good ones at the local shows, though.

Just checked in the bators to see what was coming out. With all these color projects going, it's kinda like a chicken guys Christmas every weekend.
Low and behold I have finally done it... got a lavender silver quail and a lavender mottled chick with correct color.
Made the original crossed 2 years back, didnt get anything correct last year. With all the recessive stuff going in these you get a ton of blacks, a few lavenders, and then the right ones pop up every now and then. I honestly betI have hatched close to 1,000 chicks off them up to this point, and finally got some right!

Once they dry up, I'll post some pics of them . Did end up with a spare porcelain cock, moved him to the lavender mottled project hesn last week, so I'm hoping that start making a ton of them here in a few weeks. They sure are cute as chicks though, white body with a lavender blue back on this one...
