Updated pics of some of the male D'Anvers and the Coch'Anvers. Why the heck is the lavender Coch'Anver male about twice the size of the pure D'Anvers, in fact, almost as large as a full grown D'Anver hen, at 7 weeks old? My banty Cochin, their mama, is really small.

This brother-sister pair was sired by Rufus out of my banty Cochin. Male has lots of white on the chest and in the hackle area. Female has basically none so far except under the beak and almost no foot feathering, either. She is shaped more like a D'Anver and he is shaped more round like a Cochin.

well, been off hunting....looks like the same ol same ol haha, I swear yall kill me with all that.

Cyn, did those cochins come from large fowl ancestors? Reason I ask is they could have got a gene from that side that was hiding.
I was going to work on breeding down some black bantam phoenix last year.
I started with my Schubert import blacks and bred them to bantam lavenders I had. The Schubert line is massive, 6-8 pounds, nearly twice as big as American large fowl phoenix. The first cross I wasnt expecting much, maybe a few mid sizers.

EVERY FREAKING ONE is as small or smaller than the bantam lavenders I used. Found out at one time, that line came from bantam birds..so it had to have had something to do with taking a 8 pound bird down to 1.5 pounds in 1 cross.
I assume the same could be possible but in reverse.

Cole,
yes you are a month or more from sexing... I can guess but that's all it is. Time is the only way. I would GUESS the porcelain is a male though based soley on the comb base at this point.

Bantambabes,
congrats on the arrival, hope they do as good for you as everyone else has been getting. Just got 2 e-mails from other private buyers that said they got 24 or 24 on one and 23 of 24 on another... so they are surviving shipping really well this year

You know, Aubrey, my lavender bantam Cochin came from Ideal, so it's anyone's guess. She's smaller than most banty Cochins I've seen in person. Here is a picture of her with the three males:

JJ, that looks really good! You can come build one for me anytime!

should of read on first on the ginger. haha

yes on d'anvers if you dont pull the eggs, the are hell on wheels as broodys moms. Even with pulling eggs, they go threw cycles. They will lay hard and heavy for 3-4 weeks, then attempt to brood an empty nest or just slack up in laying. This usually last about 2 weeks, then they are back at it if you dont leave any eggs for them. If you leave them and they go full on broody they stop for a month or so even long of course if you let her raise them.

Now on to the ginger red cock. If you hatched him, this is easy, was he tan and grey? if not he's not a true ginger red d'anver. I think I MAY have a few of the first ones hatching this weekend, will try to snap a few pics ( but you know how I am about that) and show what I'm talking about. It's a 100% unique chick color, no mistaking it.. if not colored like this and had a chipmunk color, then he's a mahogany based buff columbian, they are very similar as adults, but 100% different as chicks. Now knowing that he had a quail mom, I'm betting columbian as quail is a columbian based pattern, he's just VERY dark for one

here's a pic comparison of the two as adults, an F1 buff and a ginger, can you tell which is which, there's differences, but you about have to have them side by side

Aubrey, I am ready for my Ginger Red lesson, I know which it is because I remember the picture from your web site and ebay adds . But I don't know why?
