have to agree with JJ there as bad as I hate to say it... ( this is pick on JJ hour for me seems like)

good thing with those colors is they are all mille fleur, you can breed them all together and not have odd ball colors. They will either be mille, mille split to lavender, or goldneck. Just keep up with who you bred to who and you'll have pairs of all of them pretty quick

Awesome. They are all so sweet, and I dont know any I want to give up. Cant wait for next year to hatch from this group, somehow I dont expect to have anything to hatch this year, maybe they will surprise me. I promise to get pictures its just been dog show crazy here.

say you took a lavender and a blue split to lavender. Just call that blue a black instead.

so you'd get some lavender, and some splits from it. They are 2 different genes, so they wouldnt effect each other in a mixing type way. Would have to be be one or the other that showed

Aubrey I called Wegotchickens in TN to ask about the breeding that gave me these two d'Uccle girls...here is what we discovered.

My girls: Robin black split to lavender and Star: Lavender that carries the mottling gene these are things we know for fact.
4 wThe girls were produced by my former Black project d'Uccle roo. He was from her champion MF roo over Lavender hens. Both he and the girls I got from her were black with the bleed through...roo mille gold and females red. When I bred them I got the majority black birds but I also got Star who is the lavender in the photo.

What we do not know...at the time she was breed the MF Lavender projects, she had two other roos that had a small window of opportunity to get to the lavender hens...one was a black roo who came from a breeder who is notorious for breeding this to that and back to this and etc...so if it is possible for a black bird to carry a hidden silver or something, he could be the original culprit. The other possibility was a white roo. I know the delaware white is silver based but we are not sure about the d'Uccles.

Last year my projects threw not only the blacks, 2 lavenders but also a male columbian. She also got several male columbians last year. So this silver is coming from the grandparents of my 2 girls. Has to be.

From this same pen, my broody hatched 2 MF variety and 1 solid black. The black at almost 4 weeks old has silver peeking out here and there. His chest (will get a pic for you) is clearly black and white like a young mottled before their baby molt.

Now JJ...I do not use pesticides (clearly or my Mother in Law would not visit), insecticides or fungus-cides around here...my babies free range.

Look at my big loves....I do not even use wasp killer sprays...I hunt them down and kill them with a fly swatter.

yes black will cover silver. Dont know if yall remember my lavender silver quail project pics, but they are solid black on the first cross of those. a couple males show a silver wing bar and that's it, but silver is in there.

So yes sounds like one of the gandparents certainly had it, no other way. The red leakage you are getting if the columbian influence from the mille genes being put in there. Whish is kinda odd, but I guess it depends on which birds did what, but the red and silver combined should be giving you gold birds. So sounds like the silver gene is really way back in the ol wood pile and not nearly as dominate as the red. That or you just have 1 or 2 with the silver and they have to hit it right to get it back.

with the lavender, mottled, and columbian pattern genes all in that mix. you are getting about what I would expect from those birds. And I'm betting now the odd ball is going to be some sort of mottled with gold leakage in the end. Would like to see him when he's all filled out for sure

Lavender Silver Quail ?



Here is the two with the duckwing head patch. One has white wings the other lavender.

Here is millie version 2.0. The hens I raised X roo from Tom Sheperd.
They look a little different than the ones I hatched in the spring.

that's what a mille chick is supposed to look like!

top one I'm not feeling silver quail on him. Looks like my solid lavenders. The silver quail I have hatched that were lavender based has a very bright white face on them, stands out a mile away.

the middle ones there, looks exactly like my silver ginger phoenix chicks in a lavender version. Not sure how the heck you came up with it, but that's my bet for now. They are solid white ( yellowish tinted) and have brown to black back stripes and the head wedge. That would be cool if it was ginger.

Think I have some reds coming by the way!!!

I will just have to try harder to hatch the lavender silver quail.

I will keep you updated on the two with the head patch. Out of three chicks from that pen last week there were two like that. this week there was none out of three chicks.

Just got back from the fair grounds. We put the cage cards up. out of 430 birds there are 36 d'Anvers.Which is 33 more than anybody can remember being shown. 20 are mine and 6 I gave to a friend of mine who breeds show birds and the other 10 I sold to people. Soon d'Anvers will over run Va.

and no there are no "released" reds in the US about as many of them as there are true goldnecks. Speaking of them, Its the Same guy my goldnecks came from has been working on these. They were an accedient that turned out red. Been working on them a couple years and said he has the males looking great but the hens still show a little black leakage. Cant wait to get them...
