Daphne’s reproductive issues have returned

Weird Daphne note - she very much likes to be sprayed by the hose. Last night before bed, I sprayed her as usual (spoiled much?) and she seemed to like having the water hit her lower abdomen. Maybe it was like a bit of a water massage like in a hot tub? Idk. Silly duck!

Haha! Some of mine love that too. They als try to eat water like dogs ;)

Anyway; she reminds me a bit of my white one in the picture. Her brother with a tiny penis turned out to lay eggs; he/she was both. Al his/her eggs infertile though. And this one his sister has the same problems as you describe. Her eggs are also terribly unfertile. No matter what I feed her; she either keeps having thin-shelled eggs or too thick-shelled eggs (wth big amount of extra calcium residu on the shell). And there is no medical issue. It could be that some just have born "issues".
If she keeps eating/being active AND eggs are coming out (allthough too thin ot too thick) it might not be a deadly thing for her. It is more worrysome if the eggs block up inside.
I personally after trying eveything stopped to supplement this duck calcium; so she mainly had thin-shelled eggs that just fall out; and not those hour-long painfull labours for her too-thick eggs. I don't know what effect this will have on long-term though; untill now it goes well. She has become way more active and healthy looking when I stopped feeding her extra calcium. A whole other duck.

I've got one girl who's a bit over 2 that has struggles with egg bound issues a lot. I keep my syringe and calcium glu on hand at all times. If I see that she is heading in that direction I dose her before it gets to the point where she can't walk. It's pitiful when it gets really bad. She literally just flops down on the ground and can't move.

So glad to hear that she is out of the woods for now!
She is a lucky duck with you as a caring mom!

Poor girl! I’m glad that you have been able to help her through her issues! How long do you keep giving the cal. gluc. after an episode? I gave 1 dose yesterday, and Daphne laid a very-near-to-normal egg overnight and appears to doing great! Should I stop giving the c.g. until she develops symptoms again or give it once a day for another day or two? What do you tend to do?

Edited to add that Daphne eats Layena pellets with oyster shell on-hand at all times, so I think she has enough calcium for normal maintenance?

I stop after she lays an egg but watch her closely. If she appears to start looking like she's going to have a problem I start back up again. So far it's worked awsome for me/her.

Thank you! She laid another decent egg overnight and is doing well, so I’ll hold off, but keep the bottle nearby :)
