I don't understand how you can tell. I have the same breed and I hope it's a girl. I bought her as a pullet.

This thread is old, but you can tell by the coloring of the feathers coming out. If you look at pictures of dark Brahmas, the roosters and hens are different. Check out feathersite.com

Hey guys I have a question. Does anyone know if certain breeds of chickens can be more susceptible to disease than others. If so, where does the Brahma stand?

I've never heard of a specific breed being more disease prone. Personally, I think so much depends on individual flock management. Folks who give their birds lots of space have physically and mentally healthy birds. Decent quality food and of course fresh water are also critical.

Myself, I also cull hard for health and hardiness. If you're a chicken and get sick around here, you pretty much either get better on your own or you die. It's my personal feeling that treating with antibiotics, etc and breeding those birds gives you more birds that are prone to illness.

Thanks for the input @donrae. I agree with your personal choice in flock management. I dont believe that keeping sick or weak chickens gives any benefit to the flock. I am not being cruel. I am being fair to the flock and looking out for them.
