Dark Brown egg layers......

Which of the Dark Brown egg layers has the highest egg laying rate ?

My Cuckoo Marans lay dark eggs, but are very poor layers. Maybe 3 eggs per week from each hen. Is that normal ?

Sounds better than mine! My Cuckoos (2 hens, 1 year old now) quit laying in November for the winter.

Then they decided to be broody.

Then they were molting.

Now they are just out of the habit - either that, or I can't figure out the most recent reason. But I do miss the pretty eggs.

The darker the egg the fewer they lay. About a medium brown is as good as it gets for a high-volume working bird.

Is this true for "ALL" dark brown egg laying breeds ? I love the Chocolate colored eggs, but, my chickens aren't pets and really need to help pay the bills!
