Dark, dry, hard waddle in summer no known cause

Chicken was fine yesterday. Chicken now has a dark hard dry waddle. Chicken is acting fine eating drinking etc. No changes To the chickens behavior other than the lesion on the waddle

It's not likely frostbite, so that leaves an insect or snake bite that is causing the tissue on the wattle to go necrotic.

That's not exactly tropical jungle. If not an insect or snake bite, perhaps she had an altercation with another hen who decided to grab her wattle with her beak and hang on while she struggled to get loose, and damage to her wattle occurred.

It will most likely heal on its own. I don't see how you can treat it. If the tissue becomes necrotic, it will dry up and fall away. There is nothing you need to do.
