I have a new and very creative way for this time of year.... (broodies).. he he...
Kathinmo You are truley the overkill queen... I pay you homage
I can't compete with a 100 percent hatch..that is awesome.
Drom: I admire your bator!!! I would love to have a plug and play.. Almost broke down and got one... But then what would I do without all the fussing??? I am sooo hatched out this year!!!
I would have gotten a sportsman if I were hatching a lot of birds. I am on on 2 1/2 acres and my roosters are probably driving the neighbors crazy as it is.
I need to find out how to hatch a higher ratio of pullets.
I love em this time of year... They do my work for me... I just take the eggs that I want hatched and let em do the job... They are so on task...No worries about raising them and I just thing they are hardier this way... I have a group of hens sitting on about 30 eggs... ha ha.. I love to watch them divide up the babies later... It is a crack up!!
Hey Drom I heard this and it rang true for me... This spring... hatch for hens later in the spring and cockerels early on... It is my understanding... ( and I could be ooberwrong here) that you end up with a ratio toward more males early on and more females later... Anyone want to do this as a test next spring????

I only got the Sportsman because it was on Craig's List, and was cheap. It had only been used a couple times.
If you figure out how to hatch more pullets, let me know! I only got 4 (hmmmm, maybe 5?) out of those eggs. I also have 3 pens of roosters (about 30) fattening up to go to the processor with my 37 meaties. I will have a freezer full ! ! !
