I have two Black Copper Marans crosses (1 pullet, 1 cockerel). I'm intrigued by the breed and have read up on them quite a bit. In some of my reading regarding breed standards, Marans eggs are actually described as "red" rather than "brown." They have a color scale for how dark they are and the lighter eggs definitely can look pink, at least in my opinion.
According to the Standard of Perfection, if I remember correctly, Marans eggs have to be at least a 4 on the color scale. These eBay eggs look to be about a 2, which definitely falls into the "pink" category for me. Sadly, that means they are too light to meet the breed standards. With eggs that light, I'd also wonder about the quality of the birds hatching out of them (speaking strictly from a SoP standpoint). While they'd make an interesting addition to any egg basket, they seem way overpriced for that.
Now I'm wondering if my Marans cross pullet will give me pink eggs instead of brown. Since I plan to breed for egg color, not Standard of Perfection. I'd be okay with that.

Should find out in a couple more months.
