so I was browsing eBay hatching eggs and some one is selling dark pink eggs. They say the eggs are from copper marans. I have not heard of this before—is there a fluke that sometimes prouduces these pink eggs? Does anybody know anything about this?

Sylvie I think you mean langshans, and even in them it's uncommon.
Since you apparently raise them, I'll trust your answer, but I thought Penedesencas laid eggs like these?

I looked them up. Omg! With shipping that'd be over $100 for three eggs!!! Whew!
I bought a langshan a couple of years ago because I wanted a plum egg (my favorite color) but although she is one of my favorite hens, she lays a creamy pinkish egg...if I use my imagination they're pinkish. Lol. They have a lovely bloom and have produced some cute chicks, but they aren't even close to plum.
I've been known to splurge but if I paid that much for eggs they would have to be hand delivered!
If you buy some be sure and keep us updated and take plenty of photos in different lighting.

Oh I agree on the needing them hand delivered!! That’s so funny. I just thought they were very pretty and unique. I’ve never seen anything like them and wonder how they would have come about.

I guess I should write the seller and ask about them— I feel like I’d be wasting their time because I am not really in the position to buy

I have two Black Copper Marans crosses (1 pullet, 1 cockerel). I'm intrigued by the breed and have read up on them quite a bit. In some of my reading regarding breed standards, Marans eggs are actually described as "red" rather than "brown." They have a color scale for how dark they are and the lighter eggs definitely can look pink, at least in my opinion.

According to the Standard of Perfection, if I remember correctly, Marans eggs have to be at least a 4 on the color scale. These eBay eggs look to be about a 2, which definitely falls into the "pink" category for me. Sadly, that means they are too light to meet the breed standards. With eggs that light, I'd also wonder about the quality of the birds hatching out of them (speaking strictly from a SoP standpoint). While they'd make an interesting addition to any egg basket, they seem way overpriced for that.

Now I'm wondering if my Marans cross pullet will give me pink eggs instead of brown. Since I plan to breed for egg color, not Standard of Perfection. I'd be okay with that. :D Should find out in a couple more months. :fl

I hope you will post pictures when she starts to lay. I have a cuckoo marans/ langshan mix growing out. I'm looking forward to seeing her eggs. If they're dark pink or even purple I'll send you all some. Lol.
