Hi, we are moving ourselves and our 4 hens to the Dartmouth College area this fall from northern Colorado

We would really appreciate some input on the chicken scene in that area. We are thinking we might need to actually buy a house, even tho we will be there just 3 years, because we doubt whether we could rent a place that allows us to have our chix.

Any ideas?

We plan to move the chickens in a small covered truck. I think we might need a "lay-over" day or 2 for the hens, who are very used to running around the yard, digging holes in the dirt.

cheers!

we will certainly post our moving experiences after we arrive.

I don't live near Darmount College or in the USA. But sending support your way and hugs.
Is there a information center near Darmount?
If there is, ask if you can have a list of rental houses or areas where you can keep chickens.

Many moons ago (like in the 70s), I lived in Hanover, NH ... great college town.
You shouldn't have a problem with your hens as long as you get housing outside of the campus perimeter.
The campus is practically the entire town.
You'll probably get better rent rates off campus too.
I still have friends in the area and they raise goats, chickens etc but they're in Etna.
Your move sounds like a great adventure ... I'm confident you'll adapt easily!

not entirely sure about dartmouth area, but i think the general attitude around new england regarding chickens is pretty relaxed. lots of people are getting into them. I don't live all that far away from there and just about every other house in my town has a coop in the backyard, buying local is becoming the "in" thing so lots of people are either getting chickens or being more accepting.
