Das Hühnerhaus

Great solutions on handling and stretching the HC!!

I installed 16' lengths of 48" HC on the ceiling of my coop...
.....singlehandedly....
was an adventure, details on My Coop page.

How do the chickens get from the coop run to the pergola run?
You might need a Chunnel (Chicken Tunnel) :)

You guessed it aart! Chunnel is one of my next steps. With actual steps over the chunnel.

I feel for you having to do HW cloth alone, especially overhead!

Got the door done on the extended run. We're going to pour a concrete pad in front of it that will come up to the bottom 2x6. Chunnel next...

Took the branches I had to cut and made a brambles for the chickens. They love playing in it.

Also, any thoughts on the buff orpington potentially being a boy?

How old are they...a couple months?
I don't think there's enough size and color in comb and wattle on the buff to be a male....but that barred bird? hmmmmm.

Like the bramble idea...I may try that, would make a nice place for the 6wo littles in my flock now.

10 weeks tomorrow. I'm thinking about taking the branches (and more that I need to trim soon) and making a permanent "bramble" inside their run or outside in their small outdoor area.

Got the initial work done on the chunnel. I got stuck on the design of the pop door going out of the coop for an hour or so, as I didn't want to add material to the frame I made, encroaching on more room in the coop run. Went back to the drawing board and decided to use my table saw to effectively router 1/2" from the middle of the 2x4 frame and a 1/2" section out of the top 2x4. Started to rain, so I had to shut down...

Three cuts into the sides and bottom, about 3/4" deep. Two at 1.5" from each side and one close to the middle. I used a hammer and chisel to knock out the rest. Wacked it in the channel on both sides then from the end to get a good cut.

Plywood for a fitting, but I think I will try to find a 3/8" cutting board or something similar.

Used clamps to predrill holes and then 3" decking screws to assemble. It's free sitting between the studs for now.

From the extended run side.
