Das Hühnerhaus

Got a bunch more done this weekend. Got all the HW cloth up and all but one pergola rafter in place, although only one is fastened down. Came up with a trick for hanging overhead HW cloth. I temporarily fastened a 2x4 to the HW cloth down the middle, and then put it up on the roof and took the 2x4 off after it was stapled down.

After @Achap-henrow recommended a pitch fork, I started looking for a smaller version. Came up with this, and it worked awesome for stretching the HW cloth:

Still a work in progress...

Used mending plates to get the 2x6's long enough. Didn't want to have to haul 20 ft 2x6's in my truck... Still need to trim some of the HW cloth.

View from the neighbors yard.

We plan to paint the pergola white, once the pressure treated wood has seasoned some. We'll see...

Picture from the main yard. This area wasn't fenced in last year. We extended the privacy fence to enclose an area behind MY detached garage. (wanted to emphasize MY so no one (DW) gets confused)

View of the coop from the deck attached to the house. Pretty far away. DW is cutting a path along the edge of MY detached garage to make a pathway to the chickens.

Can't wait for the landscaping to be finished...

Chicks got to "free range" (more like "mud range") for the first time. Interesting how they all went into their extended run and stayed there for quite a while. I guess the pergola rafters gave them a sense of "cover." We marveled and google eyed at the chicken TV for an hour. So happy. cue Pharrell....

It's looking great & fits really well into the spot you chose for it, particularly when you look at it from further away.

The trees should also help keep the dust down a bit.
