OK BYCers...here is the situation. I have a first date with a lady on Friday night. I have scouted out a nice field off the Blue Ridge Parkway and am planning a picnic and an evening of Bruce Springsteen (she is a big fan...as am I) with of course the obligatory sunset and night sky of stars!!!
Now the problem...I need some ideas on what to have for the picnic...she likes wine and cheese and I have no clue...does anyone have any suggestions? What other food items should I have...no garlic suggestions, please.

Hmmmm. ..... I honestly cant think of any easily portable, impressible, good cold, not bad breath results, good with wine ideas right now---except chocolate--- but there are plenty of women here, Im sure youll have no shortage of suggestions.

Ok, you need to do this right. Pack a nice picnic basket- blanket, napkins, silverware, wine glasses, anything you'd need.
I'd do a crusty french bread, a variety of cheeses- both cube and slice some of each kind. A couple of different kinds of crackers too.
How about cold fried chicken? Or some classy sandwiches or wraps of some kinds?
oooo- chocolate covered strawberries for dessert! Or if you do champagne, put a plain strawberry in the glass- yummy!!
I'd do small amounts of a variety of different things. That way you both get to try a lot & you get to learn more about what she likes. It also gives you lots to talk about.
So fun!!

Let's see....a bucket of KFC?
No, seriously, some very good cheese, a great loaf of crispy bread, maybe some sliced meats, some nice crackers, sliced up fresh fruit, chocolate covered strawberries, there are jars of all kinds of gourmet things that would go nicely in that little basket too. You could go into the gourmet section of a market and scout around. I know nothing of wine because I do not like it but the person at the liquor store should be able to help you pick out something good. Don't forget some nice cloth napkins and something to drink the wine from so that you are not slugging it out of the bottle...lol. It depends really what you are like and what you like!
Depends on how fancy you want to do it up. Good luck, you sound excited.

Ride down to Winston to a Fresh Market. Get a few cheeses, both soft and hard: Brie, Port Salut, Gouda, Rocquefort, Stilton, Saint Andre.

Grab a baguette and a loaf of walnut/cranberry or some such thing from the bread section.

Get two bottles of wine: one white--pinot grigio, and one red--pinot noir. Maybe a couple from California. Pay about 12 bucks per bottle, and you can't miss. Put the pinot grigio in the cooler with ice and the cheese before the picnic.

Get some Granny Smith apples to quarter and eat with the cheese and bread.

She'll think you're quite the Continental and will be eating out of your hand :)

Let us know how it goes!

How about cold fried chicken?

I like that idea! I'd be happy with fried chicken and beer but you can't ask me for suggestions...I'm just a redneck that likes to drink in my backyard with my man for a good time.

Just remember, if she don't like the fact that you have chickens in your house every once in a while then she's not for you.
