I have 4 day 11 eggs under my holy-cow-broody Wyandotte - shes a great mama.
They are BR/RIR eggs, so all nice light eggs to candle.

We lost 2 eggs, one was infertile and the other had a blood ring seen on day 4.

I have 1 egg that candles very nicely - I can see everything the internet tells me I should see - appropriate size, etc... Very active little chick.
I have 1 egg that candles very dark. I can hardly see anything except the eye. Doesn't seem to matter what angle I put it on, I can never see much. The chick is active though.
And the remaining two, both are very active, but the chicks seem quite small. They're noticeably smaller than the first one I mentioned. One of these was completely unable to be seen via candling until day 8, while the others I've been able to see since day 3-4.

Is the different growth between the chicks normal? of concern? something that could cause issues when hatching?

All eggs were put under mama on the same day.

How many eggs did you put under her? Maybe it wasn't completely underneath her so didn't gain enough heat to "activate"?
The chick inside will probably hatch A LOT later than the others so you want to make sure that mama hen doesn't just give up on it.
An egg can be activated from 0 to 10/11 days from being layed and be in perfect health.
Good Luck!!!!

Yes thanks, I have - it's one of the links I've been using to gauge how they are developing, etc...

She only had 6 eggs under her to start - she'd already plucked out her belly feathers & took them under her straight away (had been sitting on fake eggs), but you're right the smaller ones may have just taken longer to begin growing. The eggs were only 2 days old when I put them under her :)
Will keep an eye out for her leaving eggs once the bigger ones hatch.
