DAY 14. How are my air sacks?

My shipped chicks caught on immediately. Showed 1 right out of the box and...well monkey see monkey do. I love them and plan to add them to the coop with a self watering system.

btw...the boys get home at 8. Hoping this bielefelder will hold out until then. I'm not interacting much with it. The occasionally tap for some peeps in response but I don't want to encourage her yet.
They are adorable and I sooo love the "Friends" names. Just think you can name one Chandler and it won't matter if it's a girl or boy....lol

Not until 8?? Awe man, that sucks! Hopefully you'll have a couple more pip this afternoon and by tonight or tomorrow morning they'll get to see a couple at least.

Awww...Thanks. I'm enjoying them.

And I don't think that bielefelder is going to wait. She's started zipping. ..wahhhh

BUT lets play a little game. Phoebe was a quiet peeper in the shell vs her brother. Even now, their peeps are very different. This egg is a quiet peeper like Phoebe. Wonder if I can call the sex before hatch basing it off that?

Well... IT'S A BOY! wahhh.

I see a white spot on the head, but the back has some unusual marks that differ from Ross. Have to wait for it to fluff up some. @AmyLynn2374Guess this Chandler? Lol

lol love it!! Now we just need Joey and we have the "guys" covered. Can they BE any cuter?? I don't think so. Hey, maybe Ross is so loud cause he's still yelling "We were on a break!!" lmao. Can't get enough Friends.

So I'm winding down on day 24 and I've got 7 chickies. 2 arrived today. One this morning an hour after the kids left for school and the last one shortly before they got home

.Had she looked like it would have been that soon, I would have taken them in late, but both eggs had the same pips as the night before. Hate it was missed by 30 mins.
My grand baby was here over night and got to see the hatch. It was so sweet to watch her experience.
"oh GiGi, she pop out of the shell"
"GiGi, why is she falling down"
It was sweet.
The last guy born, has what I'm guessing sprayed leg? He's also very fatigued and not chirping much. I've wrapped the legs. Hydrated and put in a separate brooder. I have a gut feeling it won't make it thru the night.

I'm not holding out much hope for the rest of the eggs. I tried to candle them a little bit ago. None have pipped internally. I tried tapping on the shells, with no movement. Float tested 3 and nothing.

I opened one that failed the float test, and it was fully developed chick. Everything absorbed but not alive. His little body was hard. Conformed to the shape of the egg. I'm guessing that means he's been gone for a while?
Makes me scared to open anymore.

Should I just throw in the towel now?

That's so cute. So the boys got to see a little too then? How's the limp one doing? Chances are by now, you're probably right. I usualy suggest giving 24 hours after the last hatcher and then candleing, if no internal pips or movement proceed to eggtopsiying starting in the air cell, but with you being at day 24 or past, no one (in their right mind) would blame you if you called it now and were done. I am so glad you did get some though. I was worried for a while there!

Well, I had no other hatches. The last one that did hatch, didn't make it. It was very disturbing to open the eggs. 4 pipped internally and the rest I didn't dig around to find out. I basically opened the air cells looking for life.
I've come to the conclusion my air cells were too small and temps were too low.
I'm thoroughly enjoying my 6 that did hatched. They are so super sweet and healthy. 3 bielefelders, 2 RIR & a speckled sussex.
I'm tossing around the idea of doing one more hatch and hopefully plan it a little better when the boys will be home. My youngest (9) is the one that seems the most bummed.
For me the experience was mixed. There was lots of highs and lots of lows.
Seeing all the deceased chicks was very upsetting for me. I've had really bad dreams about them and having a hard time shaking the images.
I probably shouldn't have done that. It really didn't tell me anything other than that I killed a bunch of fully developed chicks.
