Its day fifteen and my coturnix eggs have been in lockdown for 1 day. My question is should i be seeing the eggs moving around? They are just setting still. I have had a temp of 99.5 throughout the whole process and humidity was 45-50 up until lockdown and now its holding right at 70%. Shouldnt i see some wobbling or something?

Not really. Some eggs will wobble some won't. Wobbling means nothing, sometimes you see sometimes you don't. Just stay the course you have nothing worry about. Good Luck! Hope you have a great hatch.

Thanks! This is my first time incubating so im starting to get a little anxious. :D

Make sure all your vents are open and humidity is somewhere around 70%. Do not open the lid until they are all hatched out and none are pipping.

When you finally do get a pip, (when the chick pokes a tiny hole thru to breath) do not panic when it sits there for 24+ hours not doing anything. Do not be tempted to pick or pry the baby out. It is busy absorbing the last of the yolk and detaching itself from the inside of the shell. This is a common mistake that new hatchers do. They think the baby is stuck and needs help out. Not so. So just let things be and wait until they hatch.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I have some quail eggs that pipped Sunday around 3pm, and it's now 8:40pm on Monday. I know they are still alive, because I see an egg move slightly now and then, and sometimes the cracked shell around the pip moves slightly. It's been over 24 hours, though, and they haven't started to zip. How long does it normally take? Is it usual for the zipping to be delayed this long? I can't help but be anxious!

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, it is common to pip and sit. They can sit like this for 2 days! So just go sit on your hands and keep yourself occupied so you are not tempted to do anything to that egg! :)

lastnight i noticed about half the eggs had a small hole in them woohoo! today i woke up looked in and saw a few more had holes, but nothing else. wasnt away from the incubator more than 5 minuets and my wife yells that there is one hatched out completely. unfortunately it was time for me to go to work so i wont be able to watch them until this evening. i did notice alot of chirping from the other eggs so im guessing there will be more when i get home. ill be sure and post some pics when i get a chance.
