Day 16 and Confused

That's so interesting! So at day 17 you're supposed to be able to see movement? Mine are all translucent and I can't see much movement.

I hope your eggs aren't completely transparent/clear. Usually at Day 17, a light brown or white egg will be full of chick (dark except the air cell). I can only see movement if I hold it very still and stare at one spot--then I see something wiggle and dip. I only saw movement when I waited for it.

I had the same thing happen to me. I was trying to collect hatching eggs from my olive egger, but right as I was trying to get them she decided to do a little molt and stop laying. Ah, chickens. What would we do without them? I hope the eggs do hatch- it'll be one for the books and a very nice story.

The eggs in the incubator are from a Wyandotte rooster and Amber Star, White Star, and Australorp hens, but I have many other breeds. I keep those breeds and Partridge Plymouth Rocks, Barred Rocks, EEs, and a Black Sex Link.

Haha..the hen who is laying my to-be-Olive-Egger eggs only just started laying again recently. I have 2 eggs from her for the next batch. Marans still aren't laying! I thought the Ameraucanas were kicking into their spring laying cycle because they both laid excellently for 1 week and I was very happy with them, but then they completely stopped again. April Fools for me, I suppose!

Interesting breeds!

Sounds like they might be good layers.

No, they are anything bu transparent. I can only see the air cell. I'll have to try to concentrate very closely when I candle them next.

Chickens can be quite the stinkers! My olive egger quit for a little while, started laying, quit again, and is back up and laying. Maybe it's in the breeds? Hopefully your hens will start laying regularly.

They're very good. I love all of them, but the Partridge Plymouth Rocks are wonderful. My new 9 month old pullets have convinced a few of my older girl that eggs belong on the floor of the coop, not a nesting box.

Sounds perfect! Evening of Day 18 and my incubator is silent and still. Except for one Ameraucana egg that is wobbling, wiggling, and knocking into the others. Maybe an early bird...

That's kind of what mine are doing. The layer coop, which also has my bantams, is producing lots and lots of eggs. But--nothing from the Ameraucana pen AND nothing from the Marans.

The Partridge PRs are beautiful! I have an EE with that same double-laced partridge colour, and she's very pretty.

Eggs on the floor aren't fun! They tend to be dirtier and sometimes get eaten or buried in bedding, in my experience. Do they lay in the corners of the coop? That's what my silkied hens do, because they can't fly to the nesting boxes. They won't lay in the box I gave them.

I candle here in a couple minutes. I can't wait to see what's happening! I hope your egg does well! Let me know when it hatches, please!

My EEs have declined a lot too. All my others are doing great, but those EEs...

Oh yes! I love the partridge colorings! I wish the feed stores had more PPRs, but the last time I saw one I got her, and she's now 3 years old.

They love to lay in the corners of the coop (house). The eggs aren't dirty, but it takes a contortionist act to retrieve them. They have 6 nesting boxes to choose, but do they? Nope, but their weirdness makes me love them even more.

I will post results after I candle the eggs!

This is your final candling, so if you don't see anything and all is dark that's a good thing!

Will let you know if/when that egg hatches. I'm surprised it's LF. Usually the bantams are early.

I just candled. The eggs are all dark! In the White Star's egg, her shell was so easy to see through that I could see movement! Hopefully they'll hatch on the weekend and not a week day.

I'm egg-cited to know! I didn't know that bantam eggs are typically earlier, but this is my first time hatching. After this batch I have the idea that I'll be hatching more; it's so addictive!

That sounds good! White eggs are my favourite to candle. They are my "monitor" for the rest of the hatch.

Most of my bantam eggs hatch on Day 19/20.

15 hours later, morning of Day 19, Ameraucana egg is still wiggling around. No chirping or movement from any other eggs. I just realized this is one of the extra eggs I put in a day late, so it's actually Day 18 for it.

I have one bantam egg pipped now, nothing else. Ameraucana egg still wiggling a bit. No chirping.

Last hatch I had 2 hatched by this time, but I think my temp was a little too hot. I hope the other eggs are okay. Evening of Day 19.

Oh I love the white egg! At one point I was even able to see the legs fairly clearly!

Wow, that egg is early. Mine are on day 19 with no signs of pips or movement. Is the movement subtle or pronounced?

I've never seen the legs clearly like that!

None of my eggs are doing anything except for the pipped one and the wiggling one that has stopped wiggling. Out of 52 that's 50 eggs that are acting the same as yours!
The movement is pretty obvious that it's coming from inside the egg. It will just start rocking as you stare at it. At first you will second-guess yourself, but then it's indisputably moving by itself.
