Day 16 and Confused

Those are actually some very good statistics considering the factors. Just from reading about incubation, I would have never guessed that eggs that old could hatch, but you proved it! Congratulations!! DO you have any pictures?

Well, another egg of mine is nearing day 21 with no pip or anything, but I know it was developing great at day 18. The egg that is on day 21 is the same. Are they ok?

No pictures for now but the ones I didn't sell are very cute!

Eggtopsy results are in. Disappointing--I had 8 fully formed perfectly healthy looking chicks that didn't hatch, including the only egg from my only Blue Ameraucana hen x Black Ameraucana rooster (the chick was blue)! Most of the eggs that made it that far were fresher. All but one hadn't pipped or absorbed the yolk.

We had no temp spikes or weird humidity issues to my knowledge. The 21 that hatched did so quickly without problems.

Interesting thing to note about the old eggs. I had 52 eggs and it appears 100% fertility, as all had at least a little blood in them. Looks like they started and quit at about Day 3-5 or so.

How did your hatch go?

I'm sorry you lost that Ameraucana chick. That is incredible fertility! That's also some very good hatch rates! Congratulations with your 21 new joys! Do you have names for them yet?

Well, there's good news and bad news with my hatch. I set a total of 7 eggs. Of those 7:
All 7 candled fertile at day 5
2 died about 7 days into incubation. They just stopped developing.
2 died around day 18. They hadn't absorbed the yolk sack nor pipped.
Another 2 died shortly before hatching (day 20 or 21). The yolk sack was absorbed but they just didn't make it.
One egg was left. That egg would rock when we were near it. I made a pip for it at day 22 and realized that the chick needed some help hatching, so helped it hatch later that night. S/he was officially out on April 14.

I was so worried I would lose this chick. It was my only hope, so I named him/her Obi-Wan-Kenobi. S/he's doing good, eating and drinking good, and found a buddy in that stuffed chicken. S/he has a little bit of a spraddle leg, but I'm doing physical therapy with it. It doesn't stop him/her from eating or walking; she does that just fine. I just want to fix it so s/he can potentially have less leg problems in the future.

Take yawn and tie around each leg, loosely of course. With enough gape that a normal chick would have. And leave it for 2 weeks. It works!! Done it to 3 of my hatchlings. Worked all 3 times. One chick was in a split, lol. Could not walk at all. As soon as i put the yawn on it, it started walking within 10min. She is a beautiful hen now!!

Sorry to hear she has leg issues. I've had great luck with cut-to-fit band-aids! And glad you got one chick to hatch

I'm putting more under a broody hen...

Thanks--I do have names for some of the ones I kept. I have 11 currently (others went to a new home). But I tend to avoid naming until they are old enough to be sexed. Nadia and Natasha are EE Sexlinks; so I know they're both girls.
