I have only 1 egg that has survived I am using a cheap incubator and it is my first time. I have candled a couple of times throughout the journey and everything looks good but I am not putting my egg into lockdown and I have some questions. So they have been on a tray I have turned them 2-3 times a day and the temp has stayed consistent (saying the thermometer is accurate). So is it okay if I take them off the tray and set them on their side for lockdown/hatching or do I keep them upright on a tray. My second question is I just candled them and I could still see veins, they are strong and embryo is moving I don’t know exactly the parts I see but I know it’s alive. So should I be seeing veins and if not what does this mean for my chick?
Oh and no pipping so far

Keep a log or Mark your eggs it takes 21 days to hatch starting as day 1 when you place them in incubator - if you don’t have auto turner you must gently turn them please , I would Mark top with X bottom with O I keep my temp 99.5-100.5 humidity is also vital - 50-60% is what I keep mine , then day 18 I place in LOCKDOWN - DO NOT OPEN once you place eggs in lockdown DO NOT OPEN, if humidity drops which opening lid will drop humidity - it will KILL your hatchlings if pipping has started ! Duck eggs take 28 days - when candling towards 12-17 days, you may just see darkness very little moving , not to worry , continue on.

yes put them on side remove turner if you can when going to lockdown. I do not know what incubator you have. Yes you should see veins and as the egg matures it will become darker inside as the chick grows. There will be a air cell in it also at the large end of egg.
I like about 65 percent humidity going into lockdown.

Thank you!! I will keep posted if it hatches 🙂
