Day 17 of incubation. Large fowl and bantam cochin eggs...just a question

Hi!

First time incubating and I was wondering about air cell size. I have three bantam eggs and three large fowl eggs in a Brinsea Mini Advance incubator. Temp 99.5, humidity kept at the manufacturer's suggestion by filling one side of the water chamber until lockdown and then I fill both sides (which is tomorrow).

I candled a couple of eggs this morning. The air cells in the large fowl eggs seem appropriate, but the bantam air cells are much larger. The chicks are all still moving. I've read that bantam eggs have larger air cells, is that true? Am I going to have any problems with the bantam eggs that you can foresee since the air cell is about 30 percent of the egg?

Thanks in advance.

I can't say I've heard that bantam eggs will have larger airsacs. As long as the eggs have lost enough moisture during incubation and the air sacs have grown adequately for the chick to pip into they should be fine. More porous eggs or thinner shelled eggs would allow more moisture to escape the egg. Here is a pic of airsac growth

I would suggest though that you get a hygrometer for your incubator that way you can monitor humidty during incubation. The Brinsea models hold humidty well and I find 45% day 1-18 good for ideal moisture loss in the eggs.

Good luck with your lockdown and hope you have a great hatch!
