I am so bummed... should I even attempt opening an egg? The white guy was definitely in the air cell at 6... no pipage yet though... that's 4 hours... who knows how long he was in there.

I wish I knew what to tell you. Mine rested a long time between pips and hatching out. My first egg to pip was almost last to hatch! The only other thing I can offer up is that the 5 of mine that did not hatch, never even pipped into the air cell. They were all still inside with the membrane intact.

Thanks everyone!! I have had to help each chick so far in getting out of their eggs. They seem to pip in one tiny area and can't move around to do anymore. I knew I had to step in. So far that's been 10 eggs. We've only lost the one chick

No wonder these little ones can't get out, they are too big for their shells and my goodness, is there enough layer of membrane. There were 2 that I didn't know had pipped because the spot where they pipped was facing down.

The ones that seemed really weak after I got them out, I gave some baby liquid vitamins, and in no time they had perked right up, and these were chicks that we thought would die.

I'm ready for a stiff drink myself, I've had about 4 hours sleep in the past 36 hours.

Shellie, I hope you get some more peeping and pipping tonight

If it is only day 21 I would wait. Candle them once. If you see movement leave them alone. Restore the humidity to 70% and wait. Day 21 is an average not a magic number. They will sleep in long periods after pipping the air cell before pipping the shell. If you don't see any movement, pip the big end air cell and look for signs of life. If you see 'breathing' movements wrap the egg in a papertowel and put it back. If you don't see movement open the egg up and see what might have gone wrong. If at any time you see blood - STOP. Blood means life. Put the eggs back in and wait.
