So I started a post yesterday to ask about not hearing any pips or seen eggs move. Was somewhat concerned. But just before I hit 'post' by daughter screamed (yes she is a tad dramatic) that one of the eggs had a crack. Took egg out of the incubator and heard tapping. This morning coturnix chick #1 hatched.

Hopefully this will set off a chain reaction as I heard tapping in other eggs. I will set up the new home today (crate with newspaper, my brinsea brooder, a water bowl with marbles, and ground up chick food). Can't wait to see them grow.

I will include pics after more have hatched. They are soooo cute!

congrats! I'm on day 16 and I think I have one pip. You may want to put paper towels over the newspaper. Newspaper can be slick and these little guys have enough challenges getting their legs going correctly coming out of tiny little eggs. :)

Looks like your temperature is too low. At the correct temperature of 37.5c or 99.5f, the majority should hatch on day 16-18. Your incubator is off by 1 or 2 degrees. It is best to incubate in a stable part of the house such as inside a cupboard or wardrobe and wrap the incubator with a blanket to keep the temperature steady. A draft or cold air from a door could easily mess up the temperature and quails being such little guys are extremely sensitive to it.
