day 19 of incubating chicken eggs

Hello and welcome to BYC

Good luck with your hatch!

My chickens started to pip they are at 9 hours now when should they hatch

Morning everyone, my Potchefstroom Koekoek is also on day 19 today and we are so excited, I cannot believe how quickly the time just went by, I am sure it is because one of our other hens hatched her eggs 18 days ago so we have been fascinated by those 8 chicks.

When Koekoek started sitting on the eggs there were 7 of them but at one time when she had gone outside sor some fresh air we saw that there was one extra egg, I am not sure whether she carried on laying after that.

Is it normal for a hen to carry on laying eggs while it is sitting on them and does that not affect the chances of the egg hatching in a negative way?

A Zombie thread is a thread started by someone who is asking a question or seeking information which he or she received long ago and as a result there is no longer a need to reply to the thread starter. In this case, codymo99 started this thread on 8/20/12 with questions about his incubating eggs. Four posts later he posted his last question on 8/9/12 and has not posted since, so either he got his questions answered, or it became irrelevant and he lost interest in the post.

This is a good question and you should repost it as a new post. Just click on the "Start a New Post" box at the top of these threads, just to the right of the "Post a Reply" box. You will get a lot more replies that you will get posting it on a Zombie thread. However, while you are here, the answer to your question is, "Yes, it is normal. She will continue to lay eggs while sitting until she has the maximum number that she thinks she can safely incubate. Hope this helps. Good luck with your brood. :o)

Michael has made valid points - also people introduce themselves here but, generally, quickly move on to other threads so the starters would not see your message.

Please do start a new thread for yourself, as Michael has suggested.
