Don't. Sometimes chicks die. We lost two just a couple of days ago. Failure to thrive. It's a genetic thing and happens in the wild all the time. You did nothing wrong!

Yes I know, I think it had an egg yolk infection. I just feel for her, ya know.

I think you should move your silkie chick with your barred rock in the brooder. Then wait for the other chicks to hatch, then move them.

You don’t want it to be lonely and die, it’ll threat if alone...

As soon as it dries enough to come out of incubator I will get that one and the blackish/bluish one out. It freaked me out to say the least when I saw it. Was not expecting that ... Guess silkies eggs need a warning label...hahaha

From googling... (all new to me) I guess birds with big BIG poof heads have funky looking heads that you have to be careful with.

They are breathing and I read to dab coconut oil on the exposed part of the membrane. So I did that real quick. I figure if they are going to take awhile, they may need extra help keeping that membrane soft. Hope that is right. Going to try and not look at them for an hour or two.... probably will in a half hour though. I will give it a rest and then go for a pic.

Try not to assist if you can. You may get them out too early before the yolk has absorbed. As long as they are making progress within 24 hrs after they pip don’t help.

I dabbed the membrane with coconut oil and the air hole is open good so it is breathing. The other 3 have not pipped at all but the eggs move.

What’s your humidity? You could shrink wrap them by opening the lid too much. I wouldn’t open it again until the others hatch and you can get dry chicks out.
