Day 21 and no chicks??

I think I see two more eggs that have pipped but without opening the lid I can't be sure and I won't open it...but I want to.

I don't want the one chick in there to catch a chill. It is 60' here this morning and dropping to the 20's by 3 this afternoon. How is that for weird weather?? I want winter to stay and get it out of it's system so we can have a good spring. Last spring it warmed up too early and we had a hard freeze and lost all blossoms to everything down here.

Tebs, how much longer did it take the rest of your hatch to hatch? I mean am I going to have to wait another 12 hours???

OH NO! I didn't know 101 with no fan
I have mine in a box with no fan @ 99
I'm gonna go crank the heat!
poo poo poo to put it nicely
plus we are in a deep freeze right now Medicine Hat Alberta
and when hubby got up this morning gauge read 110!
oh man!

Piping 12 to 24 hours prior to hatching is normal. The chick is making that hole so it can have more air exchange, it's too developed to get adequate ventilation through the shell anymore. It uses that time to switch gradually from breathing with the membranes to using it's lungs fully. This is why when we rush them, thinking they are stuck and breaking them out they can bleed to death, they are still circulating blood in the membranes till this process is complete. Hang in there, your right to not open that bator!

I have itchy hands, too, OH. Keeping your hands off is the hardest thing to do. I can't wait to see more photos!

Before long we are going to be calling you OzarkHen On The Prarie! LOL

Thats exactly why do not open the incubator is told alot on here....
