Day 21 and not a blinking peep! UPDATE - PICS!!!

Chill! Don't worry so much! That looks like a textbook pip'n'zip to me. It'll be fine. 80% of the work's done now anyway. As long as the humidity holds high it'll pop right out fairly soon...

Does it make a big difference if they are in a carton like that? Does it matter if they are laying on their sides? Or propped up? Do you wash the cartons first before cutting it into individual compartments?

I so feel your pain..This is my first attempt...Day 23 today. Last night we had a pip, today out of the shell...We have 18 eggs today...No other movement or chirping from any of the other eggs. I'm trying to patient and positive...

Some people prop the eggs up in cartons like that so that the first chicks to hatch don't kick and roll around the eggs that haven't pipped yet. Which my two new arrivals are busy doing to the other seven eggs in my bator right now!

I'm not sure how big a difference it makes to hatch rates but I know some people swear by it. I've never tried it, but then again my hatch rates so far haven't been anything spectacular.

NOOOOO!!!!! Try tapping the side of the bator and see if anything moves. Or shining a bright torch onto the egg. In the past I've done both. I found that it seemed to rouse them to action a bit and also reassured me they hadn't quit on me.

My two chicks are still just that - two and no more... By tomorrow morning the first one will have been out of his shell for over 36 hours so I'm going to open the bator and take him and his buddy out and transfer them to their brooder. That'll be day 24. I'll keep the bator runnning for another day or so but I'm not holding out much hope for the remaining eggs...
