Ok, so it's day 21. Hatch date. But nary a pip, peep, zip, rock or roll. I candled on day 14, but didn't candle before I moved them to the hatching incubator.

So... how long do you wait? Am I just being impatient? Can I candle them without hurting them?

Are you absolutely sure it's day 21? I'm sorry if you already know this, but Day 1 begins 24 hours after you put them in the bator.

I would try snatching one out of the bator quickly and candling. Maybe they are just going to be slow.

My Cortunix Quail were scheduled for day 16, and they hatched day 18.

Just give it some time.

Hmmm.. Now I let them rest 24 hours before I put them in the incubator. So say I put them in at 8am on 5/2, Day 1 isn't until 5/3. Which would make them due out 5/24 instead?

The other possibility is your temp could be a hair too cool, causing a slightly delayed hatch.

Hoping it's just a delay.

Yes, I think that's right. I put mine in on April 30 in the afternoon. They began to hatch yesterday morning, the 21st.

I set my eggs at 8pm on May 1st and they started pipping last night. 7 hatched today and are in the brooder and 8 others are pipped and working their way out. I think you have another day or so to go.

Not counting the day you set them makes sense. (of course, I never thought of it before, no wonder I have late hatches...) It can take hours for the eggs to reach incubating temp. When I set up my bator, I let it run a day or two until I'm satisfied the temp is stable, then of course, it cools down when you add the eggs. It's takes about 12 hours before it back up to the right temp, or even longer, if I have a full load of eggs.

So in that case it means I quit turning the eggs 2 days early? Now they are in an egg carton... but I wonder what that will do to them?

So I've been expecting too much of my eggs? Apparently I expected egg prodigies!
