Day 21 is quickly ending....chick hatched!

Yea i knew it could do it!

Congrats on the baby. How many more eggs are in there Corey? If there are more eggs, leave the baby in there and keep the bator closed until the hatch is complete. Meaning, if this is the first chick, then wait at least another 24 hours before checking to give the others an opportunity to hatch in the proper environment.

One more has piped.

Frank,

I had 8 that never developed, 6 that developed but stopped, on day eightteen 5 were moving and two were fully developed but not visible movement. One of the non-moving ones just pipped.

The only times I have opened the bator was day 10 and 18 to candle and yesterday morning to add water. Thats it I swear.

I'm gonna take a break for a little while on hatching seramas but will probably be looking to buy some more eggs in April.

Out of the four that survived my broody it looks like 2 roos and two pullets. They sure do show themselves quickly.

I have one black hen, one black mottled roo, one cream hen and one mottled roo.

Once I find my camera and post pics of them could let me know what you think of their type?

Oh and the chick that hatched is one of the Brian Spark eggs.

Thanks for EVERYTHING!

Corey

protect that sparks bird with your life, lol it will be a great bird, that is what i am changing my breeding stock to.

ref to day 18 check, that is probally a no-no.. i check at day 7 and that is it. but i understand you have a smaller incubator than me, also i have found if i have the bright idea of taking chicks out as they dry, i will lose several in shells and pipped. they are very sensitve to temps and changes of humidity and such...

anytime you want some let me know...

I am very excited about the BS chick hatching, it will def be sticking around no matter the gender. I was looking around his site this afternoon and he sells his eggs for A LOT and that made me even more happy about this chick.

The only problem is that I have to open the bator to take the chicks out of the turner on day 18. I'm just gonna do the best that I can be and be happy with w/e I get.

Congrats on the Brian Sparks baby, Corey! Frank has been a naughty boy, tempting me with those eggs, and I've never even thought of myself as a banty person. Heck, if you're going to go small, go reeeeeeeally small!

You have to get them! I love them almost as much as my orps (shh don't tell them that).

I am very proud of myself though I am truly downsizing. I sold about 8 hens last weekend. I am trying to work down to only my buff orps so I can keep my eggs pure and will eventually start selling hatching eggs. Of course I am starting a couple new breeding flock the seramas and batam mottled cochins. I am so terrible at this downsizing thing, I have more eggs coming next week.

I just can't afford to feed the chooks w/o them helping out a little bit.

Your chickies must be strong birds for their eggs to stand up to what they do! Even with the squashed box we have at least 6 left that are rocking a bit in the class.
Congrats on the baby Corey!
