Hello,

I've been struggling with 2 batches of silkie eggs I had sent to me through the post. From the first batch 3 eggs was clear, 2 died on day 6, and I have 1 remaining. I got a second batch sent to me from the same seller as part of their guarantee but every egg had busted air cells and after 5 days every egg was still clear. So from 12 eggs I only have this 1 remaining who is now currently on day 22, but is having me worried.

On day 19 I candled and saw alot of movement in the egg, it looked similar to how my last lot of eggs I had hatched previously but maybe a little smaller.

Since the last candle I have not seen any movement of the egg and no pip has been made as of yet. I was sure the egg had not been pipped so I quickly held the egg to my ear and tapped, but no sound came from the egg. Upon candling the chick doesnt seem to have developed much more than day 19, and I cannot be certain if there was slight movement from him. The vessels on the border of the air cell are filled with blood as normal and the air cell is of an expected size.

I am just beginning to feel alittle anxious about this chick and whether he is going to hatch

Any replies are welcome

Water candle it. Set it in a glass of warm water. Calm the movement, then watch for it to wiggle. It sounds like you candle a lot. I do too. It's hard to resist the urge. I am on day 20 of shipped eggs. 2 shipments 2 sellers. 1 seller all but 1 was clear. It's doing fine as of yesterday. The other seller I got 10 of 17 to start, but 2 died late, so I am down to 7. 1 externally pipped last night, so I can't open the bator.

Just did your water test as suggested and unfortunately I did not see any movement off the egg, but it did float. Yes I do like to candle every couple days before lockdown, I like observing their development :) This is the first time i've purchased eggs online

Sack that, as soon as I posted this message the egg has started to rock furiously in his incubator. He just wanted to give me a fright

Thanks for your help :)

So sorry for your failed hatch. :hit. Shipped eggs are difficult. What incubator, what was your temp & humidity, and did you incubate in cartons etc?

There is still hope :) As soon as he went back into his incubator he started to rock and wobble and is still doing so now every 30 seconds or so. This is the first time I have seen any movement from the egg since day 19 :)

Incubator was homemade, 37.5c, run dry until lockdown at which humidity was raised to around 60%. I put the eggs onto a layer of bubble wrap to keep them steady, which I took out on lockdown
