OK, my son inherited his grandma's chicken/egg business when she died in March. I knew nothing about eggs but read up on all the hatching procedures. My son is 8, so we are learning together. Here's what we did:

Incubator with automatic turner set on exactly 100 degrees. Eggs in with larger side up. Put in water per directions. 47 eggs in the incubator. Some were older, some were fresh. on day 18 took them out of the turner, added more water per instructions and put them back. Kept them warm during transfer and watched the temp like a hawk.

Not one of the eggs has started to hatch. I thought they were to hatch on day 21?

I need help from all you experts because my son is gonna be crushed.

THANKS!

It could be any number of things.
Where did you get the eggs from, I ask because it is not uncommon for shipped eggs to have a zero hatch. it seems like that and instrument issues are the main complaints around here.
Please don't get discouraged, it will come. How old is your son? He may surprise you, my four year old was quickly consoled me after a failed hatch, and then she skipped off to the playground.

Our eggs came from our chickens.

In our coop we just have 2 sets of hens/roosters. At grandma's coop there are tons of hens with the appropriate rooster, and grandma did this for many years with proven success.

I'm just so discouraged. These were supposed to be a legacy from his grandma and I must have messed it up somehow.

SO, what do I do now? Order chicks? Try again?

I am guessing you have a still air Little Giant incubator? If so, they are going to be late or won't make it to hatch. The temp for still air machines s/b closer to 101-102 throughout incubation. I would say, give them a few more days and hopefully they just hatch late for you.

I was just going to post that if its a LG your temps have been low ...give them a few more days...

Did you candle?....

If ya do have a still air Little Giant I did a post with ?'s on it and got great results from people who use them all the time. It was my first time hatching and I had heard such bad things about them. I put in 40 eggs and got 23 chicks not bad for my first time. Most of the eggs that didn't hatch had quit on me before or around day 18, 2 pipped and hit blood and died in shell, 3 pipped the membrain and not the shell.

They may be late so hang in there.

Happy Hatching vibes sent your way
