Day 22

It is now day 22, I have two silkie eggs in the incubator. Last night I could see them wiggling and hear them chirping today there is nothing. Are they gone? What should I do?

This is my first time hatching silkies and I’m freaking out.

Oh my, I feel yah. It doesn’t sound good. I would check out the eggs and pray.

Should I try to externally pip them myself? They both internally pipped

I remember the one egg that didn't make it. On the day it was supposed to hatch, it was chirping and even pipped the shell slightly which made me think he would hatch out for sure.... but the next day, nothing. I said, OK, maybe he's just tired I'll wait another day.... but nothing again. Well, I waited 3 days after due date just to make sure but I knew he was a goner. Cracked open the egg to see Little Petey dead inside fully formed.

Anyway, hope yours turn out better than mine's. My point is, it's not guaranteed even if you came that far along with the hatch....until they are fully out of their shell.

Silkies are so delicate, they should be strong enough to come out. That being said I probably would, I don’t think it’s good but chicks can go three days without food and water. I was hoping if I said anything someone would jump in. If they internally pipped, you may as well know.

You can. They might possibly just be resting. Do you know approximately how long ago you noticed they had pipped internally or that you heard chirping?

Yesterday around 5 pm. I opened the eggs they were dead and have been for awhile.

I externally pipped them and waited a few hours. No movement, no chirping. That’s when I opened the eggs.

I'm sorry they were dead. I've had some do the same before. I've even had some externally pip, be active and moving, with beaks visible outside of the egg, I've gone to sleep, and woken up to see there was never anymore progress and they had died. It happens sometimes, and it's really unfortunate when it does.
