Day 23

day 23 and not one chirp from any of the three eggs. candling gave positive results at days 14 & 18.

should i assist?

I just hatched some Delawares and I should have gotten at least 10 after candling on day 14 and there was movement, but only 5 wound up hatching. Not sure what happened between day 14 and day 21 but I guess the same thing happened to you.

I would candle the eggs. I candled one of my and saw movement so thought good. Than left it alone. Next day nothing. Candled it again and nothing so I cracked it and it was dead. I wish I would have cracked it when I saw movement.

So if you candle it at least you might see it move.

yeah, i opened them up. all done for. fully developed but only one got through the egg membrane. i wish i had intervened on day 22. but i wasn't there. seems like if i'd cracked the egg and assisted with tearing the egg membrane, it would have had air. next time i'll hopefully have a broody hen

next time, i'd like to watch them closely. i'll listen for peeps and watch for movement. if it starts and slows i'll poke a hole and tear at the egg membrane, using a warm, wet cloth and dull pricking tool (bbq skewer).

today is day 23 for me as well. I went to empty the incubator but first I candled the eggs. One of the eggs had movement so I quickly put it back into the incubator. within 15 minutes it had pipped but on the side. I watched it for alittle while but did not see any progress so I took it back out and helped it to hatch. I only took alittle of the shell and membrane off just enough so that it could stretch and break out of the shell itself. Hes in the incubator now drying off. I will toss the other 4 eggs in the morning but at least I saved this little one hes number 14 and my first leghorn chick.
