Day 24

I’ve been trying to hatch some eggs from my flock. This is my third attempt. This time trying a dry hatch since I’m in Florida. I only put 7 eggs in and 4 developed but it’s day 24 and no pipping. I candled them and only saw definite movement in one. The others had no movement but appeared to have grown since last candling. If this batch fails I’m going to be super bummed out. It’s a cheap incubator tho and I’m thinking that is my problem. I need to scrape some pennies together to get a decent one. . Anyhow, I’m giving them a few more days to see what happens. Sometimes if the temp was to low it will take a little longer to hatch. Since there is movement I would wait to be sure. Have you calibrated you thermometer. What was the temp your incubator as on? What kind of incubator is it?

I suspect you are trying to hatch out chicken eggs. Am I right?

I’m not very familiar with the dry hatch method, but I know that regardless of method, certain conditions must be met for proper development.

Day 24 for chicks indicates possible problems — most likely temperature unless the humidity is so low that the shell is impermeable.

Also, I wouldn’t blame the problem on a “cheap” incubator. Even some of the most expensive ones are not always ideal. I would check to see how the incubator functions to see where there could be an error within it, the humidity, or just the chicks themselves.
