Ongoing drama with our first incubation. This is exhausting, hah.

Went into lockdown last Friday, with 7 eggs that showed progress. 1st hatched at exactly Day 21 (Monday). Next 3 hatched 24 hours later, including the one with the birth defect and wry neck. It is still alive.

Wednesday still had 3 unhatched in the incubator. Too dark to candle normally, so I water candles. One wobbled, two did not. No stink or oozing, so put all 3 back in.

Water candled again today, same results. Put wobbly back in, and cracked open the still ones. Dead chicks more or less fully formed. No yolk left,’they just didn’t get to pipping.

Wobbler hasn’t pipped either, but it’s twice been pretty active in the water, so...

Keep waiting? Consider assisting?

This is the first time incubating, and the way this has gone, it’ll probably be the last!

Seems like you just didnt have to much luck this time. If theres movement still in the other, it could just simply not be ready to hatch, depending on the kinda ducks you have. You could open up a small hole where the air bubble is if its pipped internally and is simply having difficulties. (May have problems if it survives.) But even if you do it still might not live. Either way, I wouldnt give up hatching, the ones that survive more then make up for it in my opinion.

If it makes a difference, these are chickens, not ducks. Expected them to be out or unviable by now... having one showing signs of life but no pipping is a surprise!

I gotta show them off. A black copper marans (never seen feathers on the middle toe before!), a Crele marans (blondie, confirmed girl) and an adorable puffball OE.
