Well I have one out of 3 shipped peahen eggs that made it to hatch! But it pipped early. I had it under my broody Cochin, so brought it inside and put it in my brinsea. Should I worry it's to early for pipping? How long do I leave it before helping its head out if it can't do it? I have the humidity up and a wet paper towel around it to keep it from getting shrink wrapped. I also moistened the membrane...so i think I'm doing ok, I'm just worried because its only day 26. Can it die if I leave it the way it is for too long? Thanks for any advice!

Four of my 2012 eggs that I put under a turkey pipped on day 25 and hatched on day 26.

Pipped eggs on the 26 is not early it is normal for mine. The chick will not hatch til the yok sac is absorbed in the body. Pea eggs take up to 28 days usually stop turning on day 26 and should be out by 28th day. Why not leave it under the hen? When you let the chicken hatch it you should've left it there. The temp under that bird might not be the same as your incubator and the humidity would've been perfect under the hen. Remember there is a difference in temp from a chicken to a turkey. We use artifical incubation and set it at 99-100 but that is not the case with live birds each is different. Some take longer some shorter depends on what temp the egg is inside. Just like for instance an Emu egg. The chick will hatch quicker if held at a higher temp about 49 days but at a slightly lower temp the chick could take as much as 55 days to hatch. Be careful not to add too much water to the incubator cause that can cause the chick to drown you just want about 50-70% humidity. Hope it makes it.

I would have left the egg, but it was with some chick eggs that aren't ready. Plus I worry about the pea chick getting sick from chickens. Maybe I don't need to worry about that right away, but I took it anyway and it seems to be doing great.

Thanks for the advice...If I ever incubate pea eggs again, I'm glad it's good to leave them under the hen.

Yoda, I thought it was you that corrected me a thread back about peafowl eggs not hatching until 28 days. i think I said I've never had one take 28 days before and most of mine pip at day24 and are out by day 25-26,,I see I'm not the only one who's birds beats the 28 day cycle.

Frenchy If you incubate at a higher temp they hatch early. Mine is 99-100 but usually near 99.2 seem to get stronger chicks at this temp
