My 6 month old Asian black went broody last Wednesday evening. I decided to let her try to hatch them with all advice against doing so considered.

I started her off with 7- one was not fertile and the other had a meat spot which I was told typically don’t survive. I am now down to 5 eggs and they are all fertile. Three of the five have LOTS of movement and look wonderful.. two I am very unsure of. Should I be seeing some sort of movement in those eggs as well? How many more days should I wait until I candle again to have a comparison/answers? I’ve tried taking pictures to post on here for help but you just can’t tell!
One of them I really want to say has quit. There is no blood ring but something just feels and looks “off” about it.. it looks different than the other two that have lots of life..

What exactly am I looking for? I’ve looked at so many pictures of developing eggs and eggs that have quit but they aren’t really making me feel confident that I know either way..

This is my first time hatching eggs as it is hers so bare with me!

Thanks!

I would wait till around day 18 before I checked to throw them out... just to make sure! having a broody hen is so fun!:celebrate I think that it's so funny that a PULLET is broody! I have never heard of something like that!! It's so cool! I'm waiting and watching to see what happens! :pop:pop:pop:love
Good luck!!:fl:fl:fl:fl:fl:fl:thumbsup

I candle at day 7,10,14 and 18. Look for veins. I don’t toss any eggs until day 10. Just because I’ve tossed some that actually did have development but couldn’t see while candling previously.

So far she’s done excellent! I’m really hoping she sticks to the full 21 days. She is VERY mama like even 6 days I’m so I’m feeling hopeful. She gets up and off the nest every morning around 7 am to poop, eat, drink and stretch. She’s clucking around and is a bit bossy and easy to give sass. I want to wait as I’m terrified of the idea of cracking or throwing away viable eggs but I’m also so afraid of them exploding/contaminating my good eggs..

Thanks! I’m anxious to see how it goes!

it happens more than people think lol I had 2 5month olds last year that went broody. One was a Easter Egger and the other was a production red!
My silkies just turned a year in June and had been broody 2x before that.

Is she with other birds? If so mark your eggs with a pencil. My buff Orp went broody and I gave her 3 eggs. Next time I checked her she had a dozen! I had to candle them all and toss a bunch since there was development in some and most were clear.
I have 3 chicks running around now from filthy muddy/poopy eggs. I had a lot of rain and flooding. Don’t worry so much about contamination. I’ve not had a exploding one but I have had a few cracked ones from the hen.
