day 8 candle

My first attempt at chickens and candled tonight and have questions. I'm incubating brown eggs and they are hard to penetrate, I'm seeing alot of white speckles, some with most of the egg dark with a bubble at the big end. some of the speckled ones don't have any dark spots anywhere, some are clear with a dark shape toward the big end. I didn't see any veining, acouple of eggs had a dark line almost like a circle around the entire egg. Can you help me out with what I'm seeing. Should I candle again tomorrow, or wait acouple of days.thanks.

thanks for the thread, I got alot of eggs looking like the day 10 eggs with the specks in them. It's really hard to see through the brown shells, tomorrow I'm going to make something with a high wattage light bulb, and maybe it will help get through the shell better.

Yes it really takes a strong flashlight to see!!

i had really dark brown eggs last time, the thing i found that worked which was pretty cheap ended up being my 100 watt deak lamp!!! it has a bendable neck on it so i can lie it flat on the desk. i took a cardboard box and cut a hole in the top for light to come out, and made sure the sides of the box were long enough to cover the entire thing and touch the desk to block out all light. you just have to be quick about it and realize that it gets HOT FAST!!! But that was the only thing i ever found to be able to see inside them, and even then i didn't see and true veining until day 13-14, before that i could only see a little heart beating in the middle

I made a candler today with a metal coffee can, and a light buld, man that sucker got hot, had to shut it down after 6 eggs, and went back to the flashlight. If you look at the link that Emmalion included I'm getting day 10 results in most of my eggs, still got some speckles, but not as many. alot of dark blobs almost half of the egg, I need something brighter to get through that brown shell. My byc page shows one of the eggs with the speckles.

get a led flash light one of the small ones like a little bigger than ur fist that is 100 plus lums it says how many lums on the package . most of them do anyway i have a led maglite that is 120 lums,cost 29.99 at home depot works great and doesnt get hot. i can c everything veins head swimming around everything even on my darker eggs.im a candlholic thow almost every couple of days im checkin in my eggs. it still amzes me how fast they grow
