Day 8 help plz

[/IMG] hi all as you can see I've hatched an egg (taken by a child) we are on day 8 unsure if woody or dove but is still tiny have fed soaked chick crumb egg yolk and baby food mainly first to my question when do we progress to more solid food? Also woody or dove? Plz and thanks x ignore profile pic as that was 2013 and quail lol

I'm not sure of your reference to a "woody". The picture shows a dove/pigeon squeaker. I use Kaytee baby bird formula. You should be able to gradually thicken the food every couple of days. With the Kaytee formula you don't have to worry about thickness so much.

Woody are wood doves/pigeons, as opposed to more common in states feral rock dove pigeons, ringneck collard or morning doves.

feeding layer pellets wetted less n less as feed, then let eat at as drop pellets back in bowl etc taken from in front of squeaker as they get ready to take from you when they are pretty feathered in n maybe when start feathering in (they learn to eat out of bowl then)

I have hand fed pigeons and morning doves. The morning dove I took to school and my students helped care for it. The bird made a fearless, wonderful pet. This was the same year that morning doves were added to Wisconsin's game bird list. None of my students hunted dove that year.

Me-Milwaukee, west allis, ladysmith, rhinlander, lived maybe temp few other places. i miss everything but cold of last winter there. pigeons lot tougher etc there n think cold hardens them, as well as and by culling weak animals parasites pests plants diseases and even especially people. lol
you can't find pigeons or people here in east tn that can compare health etc wise.
