Why bring attention to those that choose that lifestyle?

Just an FYI: we don't "choose" to be gay any more than you "choose" to be female and straight. You were born that way and I was born male and gay. You can no more fall in love with a woman than I can. There is no "choice" about it.

I am gonna agree 100% with Rusty on this. One does not choose to be gay. growing up in Key West, I had many close gay and lesbian friends, and several told me that it was rough being gay. One got so much grief from her parents, it was years before she could tell them. She said she wished she were straight many times, until she meet someone so special, she couldnt hid it any longer. I think bullying is wrong on all levels. Be it race, sexual preference or the kind of clothes you wear. Unfortunately, I believe it needs to start at home, with parents teaching acceptance and tolerance of all our fellow people. But so many times, that is where the ignorant behavior starts.

I'm not speaking yay or no for it. I just want to remind people tread lighting. I think this falls under "political and religious" as far as mods are concerned...


Someone on FB said the point is someone will notice your silence, ask about it and then you explain its for Lesbians, Gay, Transexual, Queen and something else I can't remember rights.

This demographic is already singled out for abuse, teasing and harassment. The idea is to end the bullying, and I would love to see all bullying gone, but this demographic has long been targeted.

So have poor kids. So have others. Why not have a day against bullying period? This is for one group of people.​

Because the gay community is the only demographic that is still legally and systematically denied civil rights.

When the "f" word (not THAT f word, the deragatory one for a gay guy) becomes as socially unacceptable as the "N" word, then I'll relax about it.

I agree with you Cindi, that there are lots of other kids that are bullied as well, and they need support too.

THAT is what I mean...the double standard junk gets on my nerves. I don't think anybody should be bullied, but the truth of it is that it doesn't matter, it is the nature of our society that you always will have some jerk that goes against what should be and does something stupid. The whole thing about the "hate crime" laws IMO was unnecessary. Assault is assault, and murder is murder...there is no in between. I think that makes it harder on people who are in the minorities that suffer to start with because people see favoritism going on for whatever reason. Everybody hates mommas favorite little angel baby....for THAT reason...I think this is a bad idea. I think it should be a broad stroke against bullying..not just bullying gays.

I think relationship status and legal things should be completely seperate. I don't care if you're gay and married. I don't care if you're straight and married. I don't know why people make a big deal out of everything. I really don't think we need to be discussing where Gay rights are more important than other rights on BYC though
