I hatched some appenzeller spithauben chicks yesterday and I notice that one of them has a sore eye. It looks as though it has been scratched on the top lid, either by scratching or hatching.
The eye has gone white and cloudy, initially I thought it was the nictating membrane making it look white but I put some hycosan in it because it is the most gentle thing to use and it's highly lubricating whilst sterile too. The eye is now open, but the chick is vocal and the eye itself looks cloudy white.
Does anyone have any useful tips for me please before I take it to the vet? I don't want to take it off heat for too long as it's only a day old.
