Day old chick with bend neck going in circles and tumbling :(

We had a very successful first hatch. 22 eggs, 18 hatched and 4 still in bator haved pipped.

The fourth chick to hatch right away didn't look right. It's been 24 hours and she's all fluffed up but her neck is bend sideways and under her chest. She's just starting to get and around and is developing strength but keeps spinning in circles and then tumbling tail over tea-kettle. Struggles to hold her head up.

Does anyone imagine this getting better or is it best to just put her out of her misery? It appears as though she's suffering neurologial/spinal damage the way she's behaving.

I had a chick wirh wry neck and she made a full recovery. I gave her Enfamil Poly-Vi-Sol WITHOUT iron. Wal-mart carries it. Just give it a drop twice daily. My chick went from not eating or drinking to being a piglet with 24-36 hours. Hope this helps. Just remember to get it without the iron.

It sounds like wry neck. The best thing I have found to work is Poly-vi-sol infant vitamins, you want the ones without iron. Walmart carries them around here. Drugs stores carry it also. You try to get a couple drops down their mouth twice a day and hand feed them if they can not eat on their own. You may have to use the eyedropper to put water down them also. I had one hatch like this on christmas eve and in 3 days the wry neck was almost completely gone, which was faster than usual. I had to hand feed it and eyedrop water down it along with the vitamins. After the wry neck problem was taken care of the chick came down with (this sounds weird) and ear infection. The side of his head was wet from where the ear hole is all the way down the front of his chest. There is hope if you do not mind putting the time into the chick.
I have fought with a chick before that had wry neck for over a month, it would get better and then regress back again. It is healthy now but just so you know.

Is this a silkie chick? If so, does it have a vaulted skull? If so, it is possible that it received some brain trauma.

I had a 2 week old that got it not long ago. We gave him the polyvisol, Vit. E with selenium and 1 mg of prednisone twice a day. If you don't have any prednisone, most vets will sell you some if you let them know that it's for wry neck in poultry.

He came out of it within a few days.

This chick is a Gold Laced Wyandotte.

Unfortunately, I live in the middle of nowhere so no access to Walmart. I can get someone to send some to me but could be over a week for the mail to get here.

I do have an Electrolyte Plus water soluble solution that contains vitamin E and no iron. Manufactured by Vetoquinol. Would this be sufficient?

Just looked into Enfamil Poly-Vi-Sol online and instantly recognized that the pharmacy in Bella Bella carries this product all the time!
I just happen to be heading there tomorrow. I'll pick some up.

I had similar problem with one of the chicks. I thought it wasn't going to make it. But the next day I gave him some water (holding his head put his beak in water) and suddenly he moved his head backwards to swallow!! And it was fine from that moment. I think he couldn't work out how to keep the head (it's like physiotheraphy with babies - you have to show their bodies how to do things and then the brain learns and remembers that). Anyway - he turned into a beautiful roo
