I hatched 17 mixed breed chicks over a course of five days in the incubator. The very last needed help out of the egg as the membrane was tough - evidently too little humidity. The chick had a curled foot. At about a week of age, I pulled it out of the others into isolation and set its foot with masking tape, splaying the toes to the correct stance on the sticky side of the tape, then putting a second piece of tape over the top, securing tape to tape around the edges and then trimming to fit. It was easy to see where to trim by holding the taped foot to the light and seeing the outline, trimming around to avoid the toes. I changed the tape splint every morning, checking to see how it was going. Soaking in warm water helps soften the bandage (read about this in another post on-line). After five days, the foot was now fairly uncurled (not perfect, but almost) and I put her back out with her buddies. That was four days ago. Everything is fine and you can hardly tell her from the others although she still is the smallest.
